It is amazing how fast time flies. We are nearing winter already! We have been working hard on connecting to stories so we can understand them better. The students are really improving their ideas with this. We will be starting literature circles soon. They will be able to choose their own chapter books, form groups, and talk about them together. We will be having podcasts with the books so you at home can listen to their thoughts. In math we are trying very hard to become mathematical thinkers. We have been doing problem solving activities, patterns, number sense, and adding large numbers. It is amazing to hear what the students come up with to solve their problems. There is no school on November 25th, 26th or 27th. We will resume on November 30th. I will be sending a book order home that day. It does present a great opportunity to purchase books for gifts at a reduced price. If you would like them for gifts, let me know and I will call you when they come in.

During conferences there will be a book fair. Your child will be bringing home a form that will show most of the books that can be purchased. There will also be many other items available at this time. Also, on October 22 is when the fundraiser items are scheduled to come in. They will be sent home with your child or can be picked up in the gym during conferences that day.

It is amazing but conference time is upon us once again. They will be held on Monday, October 19 and Thursday October 22. I have already sent home the notices to see if the time you scheduled at Back To School night still works. I will also send a reminder the day prior to your conference.

We went to the fire station during Fire Safety Week. It was a great experience. The students were able to see the fire trucks up close and even go through one of them. The students were very attentive to the firemen as they explained the day in the life of a fireman. What a great field trip.

School pictures will be taken on September 14th. Next week I will be sending home a sheet letting you know what you can order and the price. On Monday, September 14th the students MUST have their money with them to order any pictures. They will have pictures taken but will not be able to order if there is no money in the envelope.
